Thanksgiving Tablescape

I’m a sucker for a good tablescape. They are so dang fun to create and there’s so many ways to make them special and unique. And you don’t have to be hosting a dinner party to have one! Creating a tablescape is an easy and inexpensive way to add a festive flair to your home. I love how mine came together this year for our Friendsgiving and am still enjoying those gorgeous colors now!

For this year, I decided to let the fabric guide me and fell in love with this classic “Give Thanks” harvest motif in beige with gold accents. Then, for a pop of color, I came across this deep purple corn husk fabric which brought out some yellows and oranges – the perfect palette to work with our colorful dining room.

After playing with the fabrics a bit I decided to make the runner out of the beige and napkins in the purple. The purple really helped those white dishes pop and the beige runner allowed the festive pumpkin and gourd mix to stand out. Yes that is a pumpkin candle holder – KEEP READING!

While we have a ton of glassware I was finally forced to realize we didn’t have a full set of 12 matching water glasses. Eek! After my monthly stop into Dollar Store, I walked away with 12 of these sweet autumn leaf water glasses – perfect for the season! And no, our table is not set for 12 but one day it will happen and I’ll be prepared…this is how I justify the purchase at least.

Since one of our guests was bringing pumpkin soup (yum!!!) we needed bowls. I chose to play with the idea of the bowls being used for pumpkin soup and snagged a bunch of mini pumpkins. While they were super cute on their own, I just had to spruce them up with a little gold spray paint. SUPER easy project y’all – just scotch tape what you don’t want painted and get to spraying! Make sure to remove the tape before the paint is complete dry so you get a nice straight line.

I chose a sweet banner shape in PowerPoint and did the names on both sides so you could see them from either side of the table. I ended up needing to use a hammer and nail to get a little hole started in these little guys before I stuck my toothpick in there. How cute? And our friends loved taking these home! Now where to put that silverware? It felt a little bare to have them sitting directly on the table. I probably wouldn’t have minded so much if there had been a full tablecloth but since it was our raw table, I chose to bundle the silverware up with a coordinating raffia and set just below the bowl on the plate.

And why not create my own wine tags? 🙂 It took some doing but luckily for you, I have a FREE DOWNLOAD of the template I ended up with at the bottom. Just print and cut out the circles, glue on a fabric if you choose, then glue the number on top. Get your hole punch out and put a couple of holes in there (large enough for this tag to sit nicely on your wine glass stem) and cut a straight line down to your hole – boom, your own wine tags for any occasion. I also chose to dress up a couple votive candles with the same fabric I used on the wine tags. Remember, ALWAYS use unscented candles for dinner parties! Let the food be your aroma.

And swoon, probably my favorite tablescape detail, pumpkin candle holders! I’ll admit, I was a little intimidated when I saw some of these on Pinterest but was determined to try. And it was so easy!! Make sure to keep your knife at a slant and start small. You can’t add back but you can always cut a bit more. I cut my circles until the votives just fit and I had to smush them down in there a bit. You can do the same sort of thing but with a small vase if you want flowers rather than candles.

And of course no tablescape or party is complete without some fresh flowers. I went simple with some oranges, purples and yellows to match the decor.
